i made a list of the food plants that i eat the most and they are the ones i'm going to attempt to grow. it seems like a good idea to stick with the plants that are considered "super foods". in addition to the ones i've already planted, i still have a few more on the list that would be very useful such as:
banana tree
blueberry bushes (i found several varieties that grow in fl.)
pineapples
dandelion
my citrus trees came from a local nursery called "edible landscaping". i'm going out there today to learn something about making the best use of a small yard. might as well. there's an immense satisfaction in going out the backdoor to pick something for dinner that you've grown yourself, is pure and natural and hasn't traveled across the state or in most cases thousands of miles to get to you.
it seems to me that if you have a yard you might as well grow something that you can eat. that's about a local as you can get. sure, people say they don't have the time for such things but i see people everyday in their yards, mowing, weedwacking, trimming shrubs, etc... all things they can't eat that take up their entire yard and then hopping in their car and driving to buy foods that came from california or south america or worst, buying non-real convienence types of stuff in boxes, cans and bags or else going out to the all american junk food restaurant and then coming home and planting themselves in front of the big hdtv. seems like a real silly excuse.

oh, and don't forget the sprouts. they grow quickly and cheaply right on the windowsill.
